Havelock (N.C.) lineman Malcolm Ashley (6’4/255) committed to East Carolina on Wednesday. The Rams’ standout is happy with his decision.

“It feels good to be a Pirate,” said Ashley. “I wanted to get my decision out of the way, I was just thinking ahead.”

Why did Ashley choose the Pirates?

“It is just a great place,” he said. “I also love the coaches and the campus.”

Ashley was also hearing from South Carolina, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Appalachian State. However, he is firmly committed to East Carolina.

“My commitment is solid,” he said. “I am going to camp there this summer.”

With his decision made, Ashley will now turn his focus to his senior season.

“I am focused on getting another (championship) ring,” Ashley said.

East Carolina is recruiting Ashley to play right tackle. He starts at both offensive tackle and defensive end for Havelock.
