Myers Talks Commitment

Last week, Mike Myers committed to East Carolina. The Goose Creek (S.C.) High defensive tackle is happy with his decision.

"It feels good (to have the decision made)," said Mike Myers. "Everyone is backing me up 100 percent, so it feels good."

After nearly a week, Myers has had time to think about his decision.

"Day by day, I think about it, and it's going to be fun to play for them," said the 6-foot-2, 275-pound defensive tackle. "It's motivating me to get better while I'm still here (at Goose Creek)."

Myers felt like it was time to make a commitment.

"I sat down with my position coach, who I've known since the sixth grade and we decided that it was best to go ahead and accept the offer from East Carolina," Myers said. "I talked to my mother and she said whatever I decided, she would support me 100 percent. Then I contacted Coach (Kirk) Doll. I talked to him and Coach (Ruffin) McNeill – that was that — and it was finalized."

The coaching staff played a huge roll in his decision.

"Whenever I would talk to the coaches from East Carolina, there was nothing but great energy from them," said Myers. "Everything was positive. They made it clear that they wanted me to come and be a great player, but they also want me to be a great person and student."

"I also love the way they play. They play fast, they play physical and that's how we play at Goose Creek."

Myers will take his official visit to Greenville in a few weeks for the UTEP game and it will be his first time on the Pirates' campus.

"I'm ready to just feel how electrifying it is to be out there," he said. "Just watching it on TV – I'm like all that purple in the crowd – and when big plays happen they go crazy. I'm just ready to walk around, meet my new teammates, and see who I'm going to be spending the next four years of my life with. I think it will be a fun experience for me."

How firm is his commitment?

"My commitment is pretty firm," Myers said. "I don't think anything is going to make me change my mind. East Carolina is really the only college I've talked to since the time that colleges have been able to call me. That shows me that they want me."

Goose Creek is 4-0 and takes on Dutch Fork this Friday.
