Pirates Improve to 2-0

The Pirate Men's Basketball team notched their second win of the season Tuesday night, blowing out Methodist University by a score of 87-51 in Minges Coliseum.

It was a scoring festival as the Pirates put up points all night. Senior Maurice Kemp put up 21 points and led all scorers for the second straight game.

Robert Sampson had a monster game; posting a double-double with 14 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 assists. Freshman Marshall Guilmette finished the game one point and one rebound shy of his first double-double.

The offense started fast for the Pirates as they came out and built an early 10-point lead. Although they got off to a fast start, the Pirates had trouble pulling away from Methodist who put up a fight. At the end of the first half ECU led Methodist by 12 points with a score of 36-24.

At the end of the half it looked as though the Pirates weren't happy with their effort. They responded by going on a 28-4 run during the last 11 minutes of the game, which was the straw that broke the camel's back in this one. When the dust settled, the Pirates pulled out a 87-51 win over Methodist.

The blemish of the night for the Pirates was their three-point shooting. They finished the game just 4 for 26 from behind the arch, a number they will have to improve if they plan on winning more games. Shamarr Bowden struggled from the field during this game, but he managed to dish out a career best nine assists.

It was a game that was dominated by good ball work and points in the paint for the Pirates. They outscored the Monarchs 60-24 in the paint and finished the game shooting 48.6 percent. This was a good team win for ECU as they prepare to face the UNC Greensboro Spartans at Minges Coliseum this Friday night. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
