Craig provides an athletic presence as a forward, and as he talked about the first game, he said he is very happy things worked out the way they did.
"The Western Kentucky game was a hard fought game, and it basically came down to execution," he said. "We were ready for it because of the atmosphere and intensity at practice.
"That is what we do everyday, so when the game was on the line we were ready to win it."
Craig said his first game at this level was something he's been working toward all his life.
"It was incredible," he said. "I love the fans and exposure that Southern Miss has to offer for me. It is a big win for us and certainly for me being my first Division One basketball game.
"Playing the 4 has been the biggest adjustment for me. I'm used to playing guard, but I love where I am now. The tempo of the game is so much faster than it was in JuCo."
Craig had a rim shattering dunk that brought the crowd to its feet against Western Kentucky. He said he's put that game behind him now as they all prepare for the Bulldogs coming up.
"We have to do a good job of boxing out and finishing out the game," he said. "We have to rebound, especially on the road and playing with great effort.
"Even though we are undersized, our style fits because we have a lot of guards. We'll get up and down the floor and will beat teams with our athleticism."
The Eagles will tip off against the Bulldogs (1-1) tonight at 7:00 CST. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net.
