Pirates Bowling in Nola'

The Pirates will set course for New Orleans in a little over two weeks to face Louisiana Lafayette in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Inside ECU Sports is here to give Pirate fans an overview of what this game has to offer.

Get to know the Ragin' Cajuns

The Pirates will face the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on December 22. While the Ragin' Cajuns are a good team, they may not be exactly the high caliber bowl matchup Pirate fans were hoping for; but let's get to know them.

Louisiana-Lafayette plays football in the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season out with an overall record of 7-4 and a 5-2 record in conference play. They have a solid fan base, with consistency and every intention of expansion. Long story short, the Ragin' Cajuns know how to win games and that's what landed them here.

These two teams have met ten times since 1984 and it has been a series in which the Ragin' Cajuns have gotten the better of the Pirates. In those ten games the Pirates have had a total of six losses; on a more positive note, they did win their most recent matchup in 1990 by a score of 20-10.

Location, location, location

That's what bowl season is all about; the beautiful venues, huge crowds, and cities where these games are played are what make them so enticing. Getting into a bowl season is a great accomplishment for a team and one the Pirates will look to put an exclamation point on.

The Mercedes-Benz Superdome is a legendary venue. As most football fans know, the Superdome is the home field of the New Orleans Saints; it has been host to some great football since being built in 1971. For Ragin' Cajun fans, the Superdome is a great place for their team to play this game and one that could play a huge role in the outcome.

.The Pirates have played in the Superdome on many occasions. This is due to the fact that Conference USA opponent Tulane plays their regular season home games there; so the Pirates are no stranger to how big of a venue this is. East Carolina should expect a huge turnout from the Ragin' Cajun faithful since fans don't even have to leave the state. The Pirate Nation will need to be in full swing for this game; something that won't be hard for this fan base

Final Thoughts

Emotions can make or break a game and the New Orleans Bowl will be filled with them. With that being said, I have confidence in the seniors on this Pirate team. Throughout the regular season East Carolina has shown resilience even in hostile environments. Throughout the week Inside ECU Sports will be at practice interviewing players and learning more about what to expect in this Louisiana shootout.
