Erickson attends bowl win

Kyle Erickson

ECU's first commit for the 2014 class attended its bowl win over Ohio. Inside ECU Sports caught up with him about the experience.

Jack Britt (Fayetteville, NC) offensive tackle Kyle Erickson was the first to verbally commit to ECU for its 2014 class.

The 6-foot-4, 285-pound lineman pledged to the Pirates back in April and was able to attend ECU's 37-20 victory in the Beef O' Brady's Bowl Monday.

"It was an amazing experience to go watch the game live," said Erickson. "The fans and the environment were incredible. The team played great and it was fun watching them lift the trophy and celebrate a victory."

Erickson mentioned he is fully committed to ECU to play football and a loss Monday wouldn't have changed that.

The early enrollment process isn't something Erickson is interested in – he'll graduate with his class and join his future teammates in June.

As far as his senior season at Jack Britt, Erikson mentioned it was a successful campaign.

"We had an amazing season this year," Erickson said. "We won an outright conference championship and we fought until the end in our last game."

Jack Britt went 6-0 in conference play this season and finished 9-3 overall after losing to Garner in a playoff shootout 63-56.

Despite falling short of a state championship, Erickson is sure this season helped him develop as a player. He has worked to improve on certain parts of his game for the college level and will continue now that the season is over with.

"I feel confident in the improvement of my footwork, especially in pass blocking," said Erickson. "My plans are to work on a variety of things to get better. From technique to cardio; whatever I can do to be as prepared as I can."

ECU's win over Ohio in the Beef O' Brady's Bowl didn't play a huge role in Erickson's commitment aside from adding excitement. This commit can't wait to get to campus and start his career as a Pirate.
