Signs of Improvement Show in Loss

Posted Sep 15, 2003

It’s amazing, East Carolina lost a football game 38-3, and I feel pretty good about it.

When the opponent is second ranked Miami, your team is 0-2, and you’re only down 17-3 at the end of three quarters, there’s reason to hope that the rest of the year might not be as bad as once thought.

Of course, the 21 point fourth quarter barrage was a downer, but all in all this year’s ECU football team seems to be progressing. On offense, quarterback Desmond Robinson made some heady plays, Terrance Copper was once again consistent, and most importantly, the offensive line has begun making some holes for Marvin Townes and Vonta Leach.

On defense, other than a few breakdowns in the secondary, the unit that is dead last in the nation in stopping the run is starting to gel. Yes, there is reason to hope, but another tough test looms just ahead in Winston-Salem.
