Probably the only realistic opportunity for ECU to get a win this season
will be next week against Army.
The UNC-ECU game was expected to be an ugly
affair between two poor football squads, and it was.
Despite several questionable referee calls that stymied the momentum of both teams the
real difference in the contest was the Tar Heel's ability to make plays on their own side of
the 50 yard line that allowed them to win the field
position battle. Too often, ECU's defense was having to defend a short field.
Up 10-7 at the half, things were looking good for the Pirates. They
had almost a 7-minute time of posession advantage, almost twice as many first downs,
and roughly a 100-yard rushing advantage. All in all, they had outplayed the Heels.
However, UNC's staff made the right halftime adjustments, and with the first UNC series of the
second half, a score, things began to unravel for ECU.
