Zero Bowl II

Posted Oct 14, 2003

Here we go again. One team will emerge from this Saturday’s ECU-Army game with a win that will snap an 8-game skid and add a notch to the win column.

Army will be trying to do it without former head coach Todd Berry who was fired following the Cadets’ loss to Louisville.

Statistically both teams rank low nationally in two key areas, points allowed, and points scored. East Carolina has allowed an average of 35.8 points per game to rank 109th nationally and lists last among national leaders in scoring offense, managing just 9.8 points per game. Army, meanwhile, stands111th in scoring defense at 37.2 ppg, and 112th in scoring offense at 14.2 ppg.

East Carolina has won each of the previuos six meetings between the schools, including all five battles held under the guise of Conference USA and all three series matchups held at West Point's Michie Stadium.

Army will be playing its first game under interim head coach John Mumford, who took over the reins of the Black Knights' program on Monday following the dismissal of Todd Berry. Mumford was named to Berry's initial Army staff after serving as head coach at Southeast Missouri State from 1990 thru 1999.
