JUCOs to fill Pirate Holes?
Shawn Levesque

Posted Jan 6, 2004

In his second recruiting season at East Carolina head coach John Thompson and his staff is heavily tapping into the Junior College ranks in search of immediate help in filling a void in talent and depth on the ECU football squad. The most recent JUCO signee is Shawn Levesque of Texas.

Levesque is a 6-4, 255-pound tight end that played for Kilgore College this past season. To date, four JUCO players have inked letters of intent to play for the Pirates. In addition to Levesque, ECU has signed safety Zach Baker (6-2, 200-pound), and tight end Willie Metcalf (6-6, 260-pound), both of Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz., along with offensive lineman Joel Renaud (6-6, 320-pound) of California's Reedley College.

On his JUCO signees, Thompson said, "These guys come from great programs and should give us some immediate help that was needed at their respective positions. They are quality players and very good people."
