Primus Leaves Team, Two Others Suspended

Posted Jan 30, 2002

Prior to the Pirates' latest hardcourt shellacking, a 74-48 loss at Cincinnati, Pirate coach Bill Herrion announced that Fred Primus was leaving the team and that Travis Holcomb-Faye and Brandon Hawkins were suspended for a violation of team rules.

Primus, a Washington, D.C. native was recruited by Herrion out of Barton County (Kan.) Community College. He had originally played for Pittsburgh, but was dismissed from that program following a grand larceny conviction. Primus had not been in the starting lineup this season and averaged 5.9 points and 12.6 minutes in 18 of the Pirates' 19 games.

Holcomb-Faye, a 6-foot junior, had started every game this season, averaging 8.5 points, 3.7 assists and 3.9 rebounds. Hawkins, a 6-foot-2 senior, has started 11 games this season, averaging 5.4 points and 1.6 rebounds.
