Harris signs with ECU

Posted Feb 6, 2002

East Carolina’s ability to accept up to five partial qualifiers annually helped the Pirates become the beneficiary of star recruit Iverick Harris’ s services.

Harris made it official in a 10 a.m. signing ceremony in Burlington today. The 6-foot-3 receiver out of Cummings High School in Burlington, NC said of his decision, "It's the chance to sign with ECU on the signing date," Harris said of his decision. "If it was Virginia or N.C. State, I would have to go to prep school for a year."

In addition to being a Fayetteville Observer NC top-50 prospect Harris is included in the Top-50 Athletes list compiled by ESPN’s Tom Lemming. In addition to his size, Harris has tremendous speed (4.5 / 40) and runs great routes. As a junior at Cummings he caught 75 passes for 1000 yds and 15 TDs.

Other schools interested in Harris included ACC members NC State and Virginia. However, because he failed to get a qualifying score on the SAT or ACT, those schools are not able to offer him a scholarship.
