One of the state's top defensive tackles for the class of 2008 is talented Kemory Mann from Northwood High School in Pittsboro, NC and East Carolina finds themselves as one of the rising senior's top schools.
At 6-2, 263 pounds, Mann recorded a respectable 5.04-second 40-yard dash at the Shrine Bowl Combine held at Ragsdale High School in April. He also logged a 26.5-inch vertical jump and 26 reps of 185 pounds on the bench press. That performance has helped Mann earn quite a bit of early recruiting interest.
"I'm hearing from schools like Virginia Tech, UNC, East Carolina, Clemson, Florida and Florida State," said Mann. "I haven't got any scholarship offers yet but I'd say Virginia Tech and East Carolina are recruiting me the hardest."
That early interest by the Pirates has helped solidify their place in Mann's top three.
"Right now, I'm liking Virginia Tech, East Carolina and UNC.
Mann talked further about ECU and the excitement he's experienced surrounding the Pirate's program.
"With ECU, I like their work ethic," said Mann. "They're all working hard and the players down there are trying to bring East Carolina up. The kids down there work hard. It's also a very close knit community. Everybody comes out to the games and the atmosphere is great. Even at the spring game, there had to have been at least 15,000 out there."
Mann says he plans to camp at Virginia Tech as well as most of the in-state programs.
