Running back and safety Jay Hollingsworth holds four scholarship offers and
one is from East Carolina. What does the versatile prospect think of the
Pirates?
“I was at a camp at ECU last summer so I got to see the place for a little
while,” he said. “I was impressed with what I saw. There really hasn’t been too
much communication between myself and the coaches since, but they’re up there on
my list.
“My offers are from ECU, Duke, Air Force and Virginia, and I don’t think I
have a favorite right now. There are some other schools still recruiting me, but
there isn’t one school that’s standing out above the others yet.”
At 5-11 and 180-pounds, Hollingsworth runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds.
Last year at Lee County High School in Sanford, N.C. he had 126 carries for
1,048 yards and 12 touchdowns on offense. Defensively he recorded 73 total
tackles, including 50 solo, picked off three passes and forced a fumble.
“Duke, Air Force and Virginia have told me they want me to play running back,
but I’m not sure what ECU wants me to do yet. They might just want to wait and
see where I fit in best. As a running back I have the strength to run some guys
over and my speed is improving. I’m a lot quicker now than I was a year
ago.”
In addition to camping at ECU, Hollingsworth has visited Duke and Virginia.
He said he would like to visit ECU again before making a decision but was not
sure when that would happen.
“I’m hoping I can make my decision before the football season starts,” he
said. “I’d like to have that all behind me so I can just focus on playing and
have something to look forward to.”
