North Carolina boasts several
talented defensive backs for the class of 2008 and you can add S
Quan Outlaw from South Lenoir High School in Deep Run,
NC to that ever-growing list.
At 6-2, 205 pounds and boasting
impressive 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash, Outlaw has caught the eye of
several division one coaches after a standout junior season.
On the year, Outlaw tallied 75
tackles and two picks en route to all-conference and all-area honors. He played
a big role in helping lead South Lenoir to the state 2A playoffs.
The rising senior is hoping to
raise his recruiting stock even further over the coming months but has seen
steady interest from several schools and he gave Inside ECU Sports the
latest.
"Right now I’m hearing from East
Carolina, NC State, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Marshall and UNC," said Outlaw.
"I’d say ECU is showing me the most interest right now."
Outlaw received an invitation to
the Pirate’s junior day and that visit may have played a part in vaulting East
Carolina to the top of his favorite’s list.
"East Carolina is out front right
now," said Outlaw. "I went up to ECU’s junior day and got introduced to all the
coaches. They were just great guys and they have a great coaching staff. It was
a very nice environment there and they just all seemed like great
people.
"Coach Donnie Thompson is
recruiting me and he said they want me to come work out at camp and see how I do
before they offer."
Outlaw said he’s also considering
Georgia Tech and NC State. He plans to attend a Nike Camp and a one day camp at
East Carolina later this summer.
