Notes: Michael Byrd helped Thomasville win their third consecutive NCHSAA 1A State Championship. Thomasville opened their run-dominate offense up enough to allow Byrd to catch 23 passes for 207 yards and five touchdowns.
All Byrd did at Thomasville was win football games and championships. He helped THS to its second straight 16-0 slate as a senior, capping his career with a 13-7 victory over James Kenan in the 1-AA State Championship Game at Chapel Hill. In all, Byrd closed his prep career with a 37-game winning streak (16-0 as a junior, 13-3 as a sophomore). He was a part of a Bulldogs' offense that outscored its opponents 632-82 (39.5 ppg to 5.1 ppg).
At 6-foot-5 and 235-pounds, Byrd is a dominating edge blocker and he is developing into an offensive threat as a receiver.
