East Carolina signee and Winterville (NC) South Central star Tyrell Worthington was selected No. 163 overall and with the ninth pick in the fifth round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
A 6-foot, 190-pound outfielder, Worthington hit nine home runs and drove in 33 runs to lead South Central to the Coastal 3-A/4-A Conference title.
Worthington now has a decision to make because he is a also a stud on the gridiron, where he signed to play for East Carolina. He rushed for 2,591 yards as a senior with 28 touchdowns, averaging 8.1 yards per carry. A 2006 Shrine Bowl selection, Worthington could also help in the defensive backfield.
