"Michael Bowman will play football in the Carolinas, but it will not be at the school he expected to attend.
"A few days after learning he had been denied admission at South Carolina, Bowman has decided to go to East Carolina, according to Bowman's former coach at Anson County High in Wadesboro, N.C.
"Jody Grooms, now the coach at Lakeside High in Augusta, said Bowman was devastated when he learned Monday that he was not accepted at USC. Grooms said Bowman was fully qualified under NCAA standards.
"The young man was crushed the other day when he found out he wasn't going to be able to go," Grooms said Thursday. "He and his family were very confused to find out what he'd worked so hard to get, that all of a sudden he was going to be denied."
"Attempts to reach Bowman, one of seven receivers who signed with the Gamecocks, were unsuccessful."
Bowman originally inked with South Carolina over reported offers from Colorado, Oklahomas State, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech among others. He was tabbed a three-star prospect by Scout.com.
