Our game preview this week looks at the Jacksonville Jaguars matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) vs. Tennessee Titans (0-6)
Sunday, November 1st, 1:00 EST
LP Field, Nashville, Tennessee
Kickoff Temperature: 60 degrees, clear
Line: Titans by 3
Trends: Jaguars have won three of their last four games; Titans have lost nine consecutive games and 10 of their last 11.
Three most important things for the Jaguars defense:
1. Keep contain/make
Vince Young
a quarterback. Vince Young hasn't started a game since last year's opener against the Jags, and he's unbelievably erratic throwing the football. If Young can't beat you with his legs, he can't beat you.
2. Go cover one or zero. It's much more likely that
Chris Johnson
and LenDale White will beat the Jags running the football than Vince Young hitting on a deep pass. Take away their running game and take some chances in the secondary.
3. Catch the ball. It's likely that Vince Young will hit one of the Jaguars defensive backs or linebackers in the chest with a pass. They must convert those errant throws into interceptions.
Three most important things for the Jaguars offense:
1. Get Jones-Drew touches. Good things happen when MJD touches the football. If Jones-Drew touches the ball 25 times, the Jags offense will be successful.
2. Play safe. The Titans won't be moving the ball well on offense and if the Jaguars can avoid giving them short fields off turnovers the team will be in good shape.
3. Attack through the air. The Titans pass defense has been horrible and the Jaguars need to take advantage of this as they did just a few weeks earlier when they beat Tennessee 37-17.
What to look for:
1. Look for MJD to score- It's a safe bet that Jones-Drew will find the end zone in Nashville.
2. Look for MSW to score- Mike Sims-Walker is the Jaguars best receiver and he torched the Titans last month.
3. Look for four combined turnovers- Both Vince Young and
David Garrard
are error-prone, and there will likely be some mistakes.
4. Look for the Jaguars defense to hold the Titans under 225 yards- We have no faith in Vince Young, and the Jags will be ready to stop the Titans rushing attack.
5. Look for the upset, sort of. The Jaguars are not as good as their record, but the Titans are as good as their 0-6 record. Look for the underdog Jaguars to handle these Titans in front of a 3/4 filled LP Field.
