Different Team, Different Results

The Jacksonville Jaguars went 1-3 in November last year en route to a 5-11 season. In the wake of 24-22 victory over the New York Jets, the Jaguars are now 2-0 in November and hope to record their third November win at home Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills, who beat the Jaguars 20-16 in Week 2 last season, are coming off a 41-17 loss to the Titans.

The victory over the Jets put the Jaguars (5-4) above .500 for the first time this season. If they can beat the Bills, they'll have a 6-4 record going into a five-game stretch against the 49ers, Texans, Dolphins, Colts and Patriots that will make or break their season. They close their season at Cleveland.

The Jaguars will probably need at least 10 victories to make the playoffs. If they can beat the Bills and Browns, they'd have to win three of the other five to reach the 10-game mark.

"We came on the road and got this win," cornerback Rashean Mathis said after beating the Jets. "That's two in a row on our belts. That's big for us. The month of November is when teams make their runs and we're 2-0 in November. Teams have to set the stage for December. If you're not able to do that in November, then December doesn't matter."

An important development for the Jaguars was that quarterback David Garrard, who has been under fire with just one touchdown pass and four interceptions in the last four games, led a game-winning drive against the Jets after taking over on the Jaguars 17-yard line with 5:40 left. The Jets just had taken a 22-21 lead.

Garrard drove them to the Jets 1, where Maurice Jones-Drew deliberately fell down so the Jaguars could run down the clock before Josh Scobee kicked the game-winner on the final play.

"Week in and week out, you see other quarterbacks making plays and going down the field like Philip Rivers (of San Diego) did against the Giants last week," Garrard said. "Those are the moments you want to be in. Those are the opportunities you want to have, to be able to live that. It's awesome. When you play on the streets as a little kid, time is running out on the clock and you want to make that winning score. We were able to do that today."
