Now that the Conference USA regular season is officially over, it’s time for us to announce our all-C-USA teams. To no one’s surprise, the Most Outstanding Player Award goes to UCF’s dynamic shooting guard, Jermaine Taylor, who led the conference in scoring with a 26.6 ppg. average, setting a new C-USA record. UCF fans were treated to a whale of a ball game on Senior Night as their veteran leaders finished strong to lead the Knights to an exhilarating 74-71 victory over the ECU Pirates. Jermaine Taylor, the C-USA leading scorer finished with 36 points, 27 of which came in the second half, and Kenrick Zondervan scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Knights. The Memphis Tigers continue to flex their muscles, as they stay perfect in conference and are the hottest team in the nation with 19 consecutive wins. Rice and Marshall both recorded their first conference road victories of the season, as Rice overcame a record-setting performance by the great Jermaine Taylor. Houston and SMU were game opponents, but couldn’t seal the deal on the road.

Another week has gone by in the C-USA and what else is new, Memphis is undefeated. John Calipari’s Tigers are playing stifling defense and some close early season contests have turned into blowouts. Before the game, Marshall knew it would have to play without three players and with Head Coach Donnie Jones recovering from a bout with food poisoning. By the time the game was over with East Carolina, it was Pirate Head Coach Mack McCarthy who was sick to his stomach. Marshall started strong and finished with its biggest win in three years in Conference USA, beating ECU 83-49, a 34-point win. Full Story

Marshall was at East Carolina Wednesday and hoped to win the second-consecutive road game in Conference USA play. The Pirates, however, ran the Herd's hopes aground by holding Marshall without a field goal in the last ten minutes of the game, as a six-point MU lead disappeared due to MU's six turnovers, hitting 1-for-7 during the final ten minutes and 4-of-8 from the line for a 75-62 loss. Marshall fans got their brooms out as the Marshall women made a statement to the rest of Conference USA with a 81-55 blowout win over defending C-USA champion East Carolina. Following the men's overtime win over Winthrop, 67-62, in the opening game of the day-night doubleheader, the Herd women's team held the Pirates to 33 percent shooting and knocked down 47 percent from the field (29-of-62).
